What we run

Every member starts with the same assessment. The program is then delivered as 1-to-1 work, a small group, a remote block, or a mix, depending on the week you can actually keep.

Onboarding

How a first month usually goes

A typical start is four beats: screen, write the block, train the first four weeks, then retest. Dates move if your calendar needs them to.

One

Assessment

Ninety minutes on the floor. We take a movement screen, a training and injury history, and a plain account of the week you can keep. You leave with notes and a written summary follows within two business days.

Two

Draft block

The first 12-week plan is written on paper and loaded in the app. It names the lifts, the conditioning slots, and the days you said you could actually attend. You review it before the first loaded session so the calendar and the program agree.

Three

First four weeks

Load is calibrated in the room. Two coach check-ins in that window catch sleep, soreness and missed sessions before they become a stalled block. Most people find the session density in this stretch is slightly lower than the peak weeks that follow.

Four

Review

We retest the screen, compare key lifts, and look at attendance. Then you choose to stay 1-to-1, move into a small group, add remote work, or hold the same format for the next block. Nothing rolls forward without that conversation.

Members

Who trains here

The floor is mixed. Programs change with the person; the coaching standard does not.

Desk-based professionals, roughly 30–55

A typical week here is two or three sessions around a commute down Somerset or from Centretown offices. The program leans on hinge and squat patterns that survive a day of sitting, plus short conditioning that does not wreck the next morning’s meetings. We plan around travel weeks and late sittings of committee or client work, and we keep a remote slot ready so a missed floor session still has a written substitute.

Returning after injury, with physio clearance

When a physiotherapist or physician has signed you back to training, we take the letter as the constraint list. Range, tempo and loading stay inside what the practitioner allowed, and we send a short progress note if they asked for one. Members in this group commonly start in a 12-session post-rehab block before they join a regular 1-to-1 or small-group slot. We do not invent a diagnosis on the floor.

Recreational athletes preparing for a race or a season

Runners pointing at a spring road race, hockey players coming off a desk week, and people with a triathlon on the calendar use the same assessment as everyone else. The block then biases toward the event: more gait work and outdoor sessions for a return-to-run, more posterior-chain strength for a winter league. Conditioning is dosed so the event week is a taper. An illustrative 12-week block usually holds one strength emphasis, one energy-system emphasis, and a deload every fourth week.

Somerset Street West

The studio

The room is 3,200 square feet on one level: four lifting platforms, two rowers, two assault bikes, dumbbells to 50 kg, a 12 m turf lane, and a mobility area with mats. Change rooms have showers and lockers. The floor staff reset stations between classes so the next group walks onto a clear platform. We keep a small waiting bench at the front desk rather than a crowded stretch of hallway.

Lyon O-Train is about a seven-minute walk. Street parking is available on Percy Street; there is a bike rack at the entrance. A guest may drop in to a class for $28 when space remains two hours before start.

Notes from the floor

From the journal

Protein, plainly: what we tell clients before anything else

Before recipes or grocery lists, we ask how many times a day protein actually shows up on the plate. Most of the first month is that question, repeated kindly.

Small-group ratios and why we cap classes at eight

Eight people is the point where a coach can still see a squat depth and a hinge pattern in the same minute. We keep the cap there on purpose.

Read the journal

What a post-rehab block actually looks like

Twelve sessions, a letter from a practitioner, and a lot of slow loading. The work is conditioning inside medical constraints.
